I've always loved crystal decanters so this classic, understated bottle was always going to become part of my collection. The simple design ensures elegance for something that is mostly just for looks.
The crystal demanded accurate detail and the reflection on glass gives depth that anchors the piece. For the bottle to appear straight and symmetrical, it was essential to have the structural lines and also the reflections alined. This is where the scaling process I do at the beginning of the sketch before any shading, makes the drawing look physically realistic. The most important aspect of this drawing is probably the distinct difference between this crystal and the liquid inside, created by dark shades for the liquid and light shades for the reflection of light.
This piece would be a perfect addition to a sitting room, bar, kitchen or study.
